Shooting Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charge

A Largo man was charged with attempted murder after a shooting at the Handy Corner. The suspect also apparently shot himself in the hand.

A Largo man faces a charge of attempted murder after a shooting Friday morning at the Handy Corner, authorities report.

Two men reportedly got into an argument Friday morning inside the Handy Corner Store on 119th St. North in Largo.

Deonte J. Williams, 18, of Largo and the victim left the store and the fight apparently escalated, "at which point a shot was fired and Williams left the scene," deputies report.

The 22-year-old victim was shot in the shoulder area and transported to Bayfront Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries, according to a news release.

Later someone reportedly called 911 and told authorities there was a second victim in the Handy Corner shooting. The caller hung up the phone. The call came from a home on 134th Place North in Largo. When authorities arrived at the home, they found Williams hiding and injured, deputies report.

Williams, who had an injured hand, was also transported to Bayfront on Friday.

During the investigation, sheriff's deputies determined that "Williams,
while in the process of shooting and injuring (the victim),  also wounded himself," deputies report.

Williams was arrested on the charge of attempted murder.

A booking photo was not yet available.

The investigation continues.
