Update: 1 Dead in Crash on Van Dyke Road

Editor's note: This article was updated at 1:59 p.m. April 30 to include the name of the driver who died.

A New Port Richey man is dead after an early morning, April 30 traffic crash at Van Dyke and Lakeshore roads, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Donald J. Junot, 58, of 9239 Nile Drive was driving his 2009 Toyota Camry westbound on Van Dyke around 8:50 a.m. when he was completing a pass of another vehicle at a high speed, a sheriff's office media release said. After he completed the pass, Junot's car left the road, went onto the shoulder and struck a bridge support pillar under the Veterans Expressway.

Junot died as a result of the crash.

The investigation continues.
