"He was named Scot after the people of Nova Scotia, who have always been so welcoming and committed to the science and health of our oceans," OCEARCH posted on its website.

Scot is the 74th great white shark tagged and released by the group in the northwest Atlantic Ocean, OCEARCH said.

More than 13 species of shark call the waters around Florida home, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
