PEMBROKE PINES, FL — Two people were rescued late Saturday afternoon when a small plane crashed in the Florida Everglades.

A spokeswoman for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told Patch that the crash occurred around 5 p.m. in an unincorporated area not far from Pembroke Pines.

One person was rescued by a good Samaritan on an airboat, according to the spokeswoman.

"Both MDFR Air Rescue North and Air Rescue South were dispatched to the scene of the crash," the spokeswoman said. "When both helicopters arrived, and found one of the patients on board a private citizen's airboat, Miami-Dade Air Rescue lowered a flight medic and conducted a hoist operation off of the private airboat."

The spokeswoman said the crash victim was take to a Broward COunty hospital as a trauma alert.

A Broward Sheriff's Office airboat and helicopter rescued the second victim and took that victim to the same hospital, the spokeswoman said.

A Miami-Dade County Police Department helicopter and Pembroke PInes Fire Rescue assisting in locating the crash site.

"Thanks to the swift actions and the joint effort by all agencies and the private citizen, both patients were found and transported quickly in order to receive proper medical care," the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokeswoman added.
