3 Boys Stabbed Outside Miami-Dade High School
Three boys were stabbed outside Felix Varela Senior High School during an altercation with a student.

MIAMI, FL — Three boys were stabbed outside Felix Varela Senior High School on Monday following an altercation with a student.
The incident happened around 2:30 p.m., according to first responders.
"On Monday afternoon, following dismissal, three juvenile males entered the parking lot of Felix Varela Senior High School and confronted a male student who was sitting in his vehicle," said Jackie Calzadilla of Miami-Dade County Public Schools. "During the altercation that ensued, the Varela student produced a knife. As a result, the three juveniles — who are not Varela students were stabbed and transported to an area hospital."

She said the Varela student was taken into custody and was expected to be charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds.
"Following a thorough investigation involving interviews with witnesses and involved parties, it was determined that the hospitalized victims were the main aggressors," Calzadilla said. "As a result, all four individuals are facing felony charges."

She said the stabbing victims were expected to be charged with burglary and battery.
"This was an isolated incident and all involved juveniles were known to each other," Calzadilla said. "The investigation is ongoing."
The adult brother of one of the stabbing victims was later charged by Miami-Dade Schools Police with contributing to the delinquency of minors, according to Calzadilla. She said Matthew Moya allegedly drove the boys to confront the student.
The school was to operate on a regular schedule Tuesday.
"However, in an abundance of caution, there will be extra police presence at the school tomorrow," Calzadilla said.
School officials initially were confused as to whether the injured juveniles were students at the school.
A spokesperson for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue added that the three injured juveniles were taken by two ambulances to the county's western trauma center.
