3 Teens Escape From Miami-Dade Detention Center, 1 Caught

One of the escaped teens was apprehended and two remained at large as of late Sunday night.

MIAMI, FL — Three teens escaped from a southwest Miami-Dade juvenile detention center Sunday night, according to police. One was apprehended and two remained at large. Police said the teens have a history of violent behavior.

"Detention center staff contacted police to report that three juveniles were missing from the facility," explained Detective Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Zabaleta said investigators believe that the teens escaped through a classroom window. Patch is withholding their names because of their ages.

"Several calls were received from surrounding apartment complexes advising that the escapees were spotted in the area," Zabaleta said. "A perimeter was immediately established."

Zabaleta said one of the teens was taken into custody but the other two were still at large as of late Sunday night.

"The community is urged to call 9-1-1, if they see or have any information on their whereabouts," he added.
