1. A Miami police officer killed in the line of duty almost six years ago, Officer Jorge Sanchez, now has a street named after him. Sanchez died on November 1, 2016 when his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Southwest 8th Street and 137th Avenue. (Miami Patch)
2. Mayor Juan Carlos Bermudez has been sworn in as the new president of the Miami Dade League of Cities for 2022-2023. Each year a new president is appointed based on their proven leadership and for their commitment to the residents of Miami-Dade County. (Miami's Community Newspaper)
3. AfroPunk is happening this weekend in Overtown. Jamaican dancehall headliner Skillibeng will join Nigerian afrobeats superstar Rema and other artists, including Jamaican DJ Mavado, Grammy-winning Walshy Fire, Dominican-Italian singer-songwriter YENDRY and more. (Miami Times)
4. A current U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agent and a former supervisor in the agency were charged Friday with leaking confidential law enforcement information to defense lawyers in Miami in exchange for $70,000 in cash. The charges are the latest blunder for the DEA, which has been mired in controversy as of late.
5. Lionstone Development has jumped into the South Florida office craze with a $16.8 million acquisition in Miami Gardens. An affiliate of the Bal Harbour-based real estate investment firm recently acquired Commons Plaza, a newly renovated, three-story office building at 5901 Miami Gardens Drive, according to records.
