1. Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava held a press conference in Doral on Friday afternoon to share emergency updates amid the county's tropical storm warning. She was joined by District 12 Chairman Jose "Pepe" Diaz to share important information on flood response. (NBC News)
2. A woman in Fort Lauderdale performing a sexual act on a driver caused their vehicle to crash into FedEx truck on Thursday evening, officials say. The crash happened at North Ocean Boulevard and 19th Street around 6:49 p.m. (WPLG Local 10)
3. Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny is teaming up with Miami mega-club mogul turned restauranteur David Grutman and his hospitality group, Groot Hospitality, to open a new Japanese steakhouse called Gekkō in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood. It will replace the Katsuya space at SLS Lux Brickell Tower. (Eater Miami)
4. Miami commissioners earlier this week approved the ballot wording for a special election August 23 during which city voters will get a second chance to weigh in on a mixed-use downtown project that would add a luxury hotel and a site lease of up to a century. If approved by voters and by the city and developer in a final lease, the move would add 50 more years to the lease It will permit the Wharf to build a hotel at its expense. (Miami Today)
5. Another case of monkeypox has been confirmed in South Florida. The total number of infected individuals is now three, with all of them are reported in Broward County. People should avoid close contact to anyone who may have the virus. (WSVN)

- Caffe Abbracci owner Nino Pernetti of Coral Gables has died at age 76. Pernetti was an important part of his restaurant until he contracted COVID-19 in 2020 and spent 17 months battling the aftereffects. The restaurateur never recovered from the impact of catching the virus. (Miami New Times)
