1. Around 2 million genetically modified mosquitoes will be released into the wild in Key West, Florida and California after Oxitec was given approval for the project by the Environmental Protection Agency, the company said in a release Tuesday. The mosquitoes are meant to reduce the spread of mosquito-borne diseases. (Miami Patch)

2. A South Florida family has accused a Lauderdale Lakes day care of abuse. They say their toddler was badly injured while in their care at First Church of the Open Bible in Lauderdale Lakes. The Broward Sheriff's Office is now involved and Child Services has also been contacted. (WSVN)

3. A 7-year-old child was detained at Dillard Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale on Friday for bringing a gun to school, according to police. Fort Lauderdale police officials say staff at Dillard received information that a student had a gun on campus shortly before 8:00 a.m. (CBS Miami)

4. The Calle Ocho Music Festival will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Sunday along Southwest 8th Street between 12th Avenue and 27th Avenue. It will be the first in-person Calle Ocho event in 3 years, with 2020's event canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and 2021's event held virtually. (NBC Miami)

5. Three men were injured after in a crash during a police car chase on Thursday in Homestead. Detectives reported a narcotics transaction and a firearm with a high-capacity magazine. Two of the men, Steven Rodriguez and Kenneth White, were in a getaway car, according to the Homestead Police Department. Rodriguez was driving when he ignored a stop sign and crashed, according to Sgt. Fernando Morales. (WPLG Local 10)

  • Skretting, a Norwegian global manufacturer and supplier of fish feed to land-based aquaculture companies, is planning a new feed facility in Miami-Dade close to one of its largest customers. (Miami Today)
  • Miami's Brickell is getting an 80-story Cipriani Residences condo tower, according to Forbes. It will be located at 1420 S. Miami Avenue and be part of a three-tower project planned by developer Mast Capital. (The Next Miami)
