Capsized Smuggling Boat Survivor Juan Montoya Tells Of His Harrowing Ordeal After Losing His Sister

Montoya said chose to make the trip to the US by boat because it was safer than traveling through Mexico.

The sole survivor of a smuggler boat that capsized off Florida’s coast is out of the hospital.

Twenty-two-year-old Colombian national Juan Esteban Montoya said he was traveling with his sister Maria Camila Montoya, 18, and about 38 other immigrants from different countries.

Montoya said chose to make the trip to the US by boat because it was safer than traveling through Mexico and he and his sister wanted to reunite with their mother who lives in Texas.
