Here are the top stories in Miami today:

1. Pumpkin prices in Miami this year are being impacted by inflation. The number of Americans who carved pumpkins in 2021 declined to 44 percent. It is unclear if pumpkin prices could rise to $5 in the future. (Miami Patch)

2. A four-bedroom home built in 1989 in South Florida's Hialeah has sold for $860,000. The property also has three bathrooms, and a garage and sits on a 7,789-square-foot lot with a pool. The sale comes amid rising home prices in South Florida. (Subscription: Miami Herald)

3. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has extended its offer to help the victims of Hurricane Ian to Monroe County, helping those in the Florida Keys. Those who suffered damage to their homes or loss of income could be eligible for help from the government agency. (WSVN)

4. City of Miami is launching a new science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) scholarship program backed by billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin. He donated $250,000 to the Venture Miami Scholarship program in addition to a $1 million challenge grant. 5. An internal report at University of Miami (UM) allegedly shows a large pay gap between men and women at the university, according to harpist Laura Sherman. Sherman took legal action against the university after allegedly obtaining an in-depth salary study completed by the university in 2018 that shows men making more than women in a wide range of fields across the institution.
