Coast Guard Continues Search For Carnival Cruise Ship Passenger

A search continued into Saturday morning for a 26-year-old man who reportedly went overboard from the Carnival cruise ship Victory.

MIAMI, FL — A missing Carnival cruise ship passenger was identified as Thomas McElhany as the U.S. Coast Guard continued its search for the 26-year-old into Saturday morning.

"The continues their search and will continue to search throughout the night," the Coast Guard said in a statement Friday night.

A search got underway Friday morning for McElhany who reportedly went overboard from the Carnival cruise ship Victory. The Guard was focusing the search on an area 35 miles off the coast of Islamorada in the Florida Keys.

"Watchstanders with the Coast Guard 7th District command center received a call from the cruise ship stating a passenger had reportedly went overboard," officials said Friday morning.

The ship was on its way to PortMiami, according to the Coast Guard. The ship continued to Miami without the missing passenger after a delay.

The rescue team included an Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter; Air Station Miami HC-144 Ocean Sentry as well as the Coast Guard Cutter Charles David, Jr.
