Driver Fatally Strikes 2 Cyclists On Rickenbacker Causeway: Reports

MIAMI, FL — Two bicyclists died over the weekend after the driver of a Jeep struck them while traveling on the Rickenbacker Causeway, according to multiple news outlets.

According to the Miami Police Department, the fatal collision happened Sunday afternoon and shut down the causeway to traffic for a few hours.

"He ran them over...killed them instantly," witness Biagio Mazzeo told NBC 6. "It's really, really sad."

The driver was detained for questioning after the crash, and was later let go, WPLG-TV reported. He was given several citations.

Police said an adult male and adult female were pronounced dead on the scene by Miami Fire Rescue, both stations reported.

The crash remains under investigation.
