Off-Duty Florida Cop Yanks Little Boy Away From Shark: WATCH

An off-duty Florida cop was walking along the beach with his wife last week when the couple spotted a shark near a little boy.

COCOA BEACH, FL — Off-duty Florida police officer Adrian Kosicki was walking along the beach with his wife last week when the couple spotted a shark near a little boy on a boogie board.

"Adrian made the decision to quickly enter the water and pull the boy from the surf as the shark began to get dangerously close, within only a couple of feet at its nearest distance," Cocoa Beach police posted on Facebook along with video of the encounter.

The video shows the officer yank the boy away from the shark before he could find out the shark's intentions. The incident occurred on Thursday night near a fishing pier.

"We’re certainly not marine biologists, educated and trained to differentiate between the various species of sharks, their respective feeding habits and aggressiveness near swimmers," according to Cocoa Beach police. "We just do what we do best — protect the public from harm."

The police department said the little boy will not soon forget the incident, which occurred about 5 miles from Cape Canaveral and about 60 miles from Orlando.
