MIAMI, FL — Electric scooter company Lime has found that its users around the Miami area are older than one might have guessed.

The average age of a Lime rider is 36, while one in four riders are 43 or older, according to the results of a new South Florida rider survey released this week.

The timing of the survey findings coincides with a planned debate Thursday by the Miami Commission on an ordinance to extend the electric scooter pilot program.

Company officials say the results highlight a growing public demand for electric scooters and how they are helping to reduce cars on the streets of Miami.

  • Residents are relying less on cars with 38 percent of riders using a Lime electric scooter rather than a motor vehicle, and 41 percent of riders using them to get to or from public transit.
  • Residents want more Lime scooters with 36 percent of riders stating that they wanted to ride a Lime scooter, but were unable to find one within proximity given minimal availability.
  • Lime helps local riders fulfill everyday transportation needs with 34 percent using electric scooters to commute to work/school and 36 percent for travel to dining/entertainment.
  • Lime riders are residents with 61 percent reporting that they live, work or attend school in the city.
