1. An animal rescue volunteer working at a nonprofit shelter in Broward County died Thursday after she was attacked by a large, mixed-breed dog that had been turned into the shelter earlier this month. Pam Robb worked at the 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida shelter in Oakland Park. Nearly 2,000 expressions of sympathy have been posted on the shelter's Facebook page following Robb's death. (Miami Patch)
2. The Miami-Dade County Public District along with the Broward County Public Schools District were among 12 across the state that defied Florida's ban on mask mandates and required students to wear masks in school. Miami-Dade stands to lose $72 million and the stripped funding would be spread among the state's other districts. A group of Miami-Dade County public school parents voiced their outrage on Friday over the legislation. (CBS Miami)
3. Feeding South Florida announced its third annual Feed Your Creativity art competition on Thursday. All students in elementary, middle and high school are invited to enter and the winning artwork could be converted to one of the organization's truck wraps. (WSVN)
4. Coral Gables Mobility Hub's construction firm, The Weitz Company, received approval to demolish a parking garage where the hub will rise, costing the city an additional $1.5 million. City officials approved future bond funds to be allocated for unforeseeable costs for services that were not included in the original management agreement. (Miami Today)
5. The developers of the Grand Hyatt Miami Beach say they are now working on permitting, and expect site work to begin by summer. It will then take 30 months until the hotel opens, which is expected in November 2025. (The Next Miami)
