FIU Students Warned To 'Seek Shelter Now' During Altercation

FIU students at the Biscayne Bay Campus were warned to "seek shelter now" on Thursday afternoon when an altercation broke out.

NORTH MIAMI, FL — Florida International University students at the Biscayne Bay Campus were warned to "seek shelter now" on Thursday afternoon when an altercation broke out between two maintenance workers and a firearm was discharged.

"No one was hurt," said a university statement. "All parties involved are in custody. There is no threat to the university community."

FIU's Biscayne Bay Campus is located on Biscayne Boulevard in North Miami. The campus spans nearly 200 acres and has 7,000 students.

University officials said the altercation took place at the campus motor pool area. Both of the guards work for contractor Aramark.
