Florida Coronavirus Update: 33,690 Cases, 50 New Deaths
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Florida rose to 33,690 Thursday.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Florida rose to 33,690 Thursday as the death toll climbed to 1,268.
The numbers represent an increase of 497 new cases over the previous 24-hour period and 50 more deaths across the state.
Florida restaurants and retailers have been given the OK by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to reopen starting Monday with reduced occupancy requirements and social distancing rules in effect. The governor's order also permits the resumption of elective medical procedures throughout the state but does not address beaches, bars and hair salons. Seventeen of Florida's 67 counties reported news deaths on Thursday from the previous 24-hour period.
Miami-Dade reported 14 more deaths Thursday. Palm Beach County reported eight new deaths. Broward County reported three more deaths. Those three South Florida counties account for some 60 percent of all of Florida's confirmed cases of the new coronavirus.

Manatee County reported six new deaths. Pinellas County reported three new deaths as did Alachua County. Collier County reported two new deaths. Hernando County also reported two new deaths as did Lee County.
Lake County, Charlotte County, Martin County,Okaloosa County, Orange County, Pasco County, Volusia County and Polk County each reported one new death.
Miami-Dade reported a total of 12,063 confirmed cases, more than any other county. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 4,953 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 2,963 cases.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 1,124 cases as of Thursday. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 1,385 cases.
