Florida Coronavirus Update: 35,463 Cases, 50 More Deaths

The number of coronavirus cases in Florida climbed to 35,463 on Saturday.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — The number of coronavirus cases in Florida climbed to 35,463 on Saturday, an increase of 735 new confirmed cases over the previous 24-hour period.

The number of people who died from the virus in Florida rose to 1,364, up from 1,314 on Friday. That's an increase of 50 deaths over the previous 24-year-period.

Twenty-two of Florida's 67 counties reported new deaths on Saturday.

Miami-Dade County reported nine more deaths. Broward County reported five new deaths. Palm Beach County reported four new deaths. Those three South Florida counties account for some 60 percent of all Florida cases.

Volusia County reported four new deaths. Charlotte County reported three more deaths as did Pinellas County and Sarasota County. Clay County reported two new deaths as did Manatee County, Suwannee County and Polk County.

Nassau County reported its first death from the virus. Duval County reported one more death as did Escambia County, Hendry County, Marion County, Okaloosa County, Osceola County, Orange County, Putnam County, St. Lucie County and Flagler County.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that he is reopening state-run parks, including some with beaches, beginning Monday. State parks have been closed since March 23.

Florida restaurants and retailers were also given the OK by DeSantis to reopen starting Monday with reduced occupancy requirements and social distancing rules in effect though the order temporarily excluded Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Miami-Dade reported a total of 12,866 confirmed cases as of Saturday, more than any other county. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 5,257 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 3,080 cases. Those three counties account for some 60 percent of all Florida cases.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 1,240 cases as of Saturday. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 1,422 cases.
