Florida Coronavirus Update: 479 New Cases

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the state had risen to 42,402 as of Wednesday, an increase of 479 new cases during the previous 24-hour period.

Fourteen of Florida's 67 counties reported a total of 48 more deaths from the coronavirus Wednesday over the previous 24-hour period.

Miami-Dade County reported 13 new deaths. Broward County reported nine more deaths. Palm Beach County also reported nine new deaths. Hillsborough County reported three more deaths as did Duval County .

Charlotte County reported two new deaths as did Collier County. Gadsden County reported its first death from the virus. Orange County reported one new death as did Lee County, Manatee County, Osceola County, Pinellas County and Polk County.

The total number of deaths reported in the state from the virus rose to 1,827 on Wednesday, up from 1,779 a day earlier.

The state had a 7.1 positive test rate for the virus out of 595,478 tests that had been administered as of Wednesday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 7,595 from 7,418 a day earlier.

A total of 24,642 — or some 58 percent of the state's total cases — were in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Miami-Dade reported 14,468 confirmed cases as of Wednesday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 5,998 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 4,176 cases.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 1,494 cases as of Wednesday. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 1,553 cases.
