Here are the top five stories today in Miami:
1. Florida will now require statewide recertification of condominiums over three stories tall under new legislation Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law Thursday as a response to the Surfside condo collapse that killed 98 people. Recertification will be required after 30 years, or 25 years if the building is within three miles of the coast, and every 10 years after that. (WPLG Local 10)
2. Police temporarily closed part of the Venetian Causeway in Miami on Thursday after a power line fell. A broken garbage truck was being towed when it brought the line down. (WSVN)
3. A major supertall tower planned in Brickell will have Miami's first silver and gold pool. The porte cochere will be trimmed in gold leaf and clad in monolithic slabs of travertine, with a grand gold-beaded screen above emitting a deep, warm glow. JDS and Major Food Group are the developers. (The Next Miami)
4. The Walk for Mental Health Awareness hosted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Miami-Dade on Saturday, May 21, raised funds for free support groups, peer mentoring, outreach and adult and youth educational programs. The nonprofit met its fundraising goal of $225,000, enabling continued growth in its presence in Miami-Dade and the Florida Keys. (Miami's Community News)
5. Miami Beach officials are preparing to welcome additional visitors this weekend for the Hyundai Air & Sea Show at Lummus Park, May 28-29. A Memorial Day commemoration event also will be held Monday, May 30, in partnership with the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. (The Miami Times)
