Floridians Honor Fallen As Coronavirus Cases Rise To 51,746

As Floridians honored the state's fallen heroes Monday, health officials said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 51,746.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — As Floridians honored the state's fallen heroes Monday, health officials said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases climbed to 51,746, an increase of 879 cases over the previous 24-hour period.

State health officials also reported a total of 2,252 deaths, up from 2,237 deaths involving Florida residents a day earlier. It was not immediately clear to what extent the reporting of deaths was affected by the holiday weekend, if at all.

Eight Florida counties reported a total of 15 new deaths Monday over the previous 24-hour period compared to four new deaths on Sunday, 43 new deaths Saturday, 59 Friday, 51 on Thursday, 43 Wednesday, 55 Tuesday and 24 deaths last Monday.

Miami-Dade reported two new deaths Monday. Broward County reported six new deaths. Duval County reported two new deaths. Brevard County reported one new death as did Collier County, Lee County, Monroe County and St. Lucie County.

Florida had a 5.7 percent positive test rate for the virus based on a total of 909,928 tests that had been administered as of Monday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 9,424 from 9,381 a day earlier.

A total of 29,156 cases — or some 56 percent of the state's total — were in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

Miami-Dade reported 17,041 confirmed cases of the virus as of Monday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 6,760 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 5,355 cases.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 1,939 cases as of Monday. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 1,831cases.
