Four-Legged Miamians And Human Companions Take Over Bayfront Park

MIAMI, FL — Some 300 four-legged Miamians and their human companions were expected to fetch an audience of thousands at Bayfront Park on Saturday for the popular Walk for the Animals event. Proceeds benefit the Humane Society of Greater Miami.
The society's Melanie Ochoa told Patch that the event has been held for 19 years to benefit the homeless dogs and cats of Miami.
Saturday's event was scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. It was to feature a mile-long walk around Bayfront Park, games, raffles and doggie contests like the “look-alike” and “best kisser."

At 9:30 a.m., the Top Dog, Top Pack and Top Pup Packs were to be announced to reward "amazing fundraising efforts." One hundred percent of the proceeds were to go directly to help animals.
Organizers also planned to have a Doggie Fun Zone, where canines could navigate a covered agility course replete with hurdles and tight corners.

NBC 6 meteorologist Ryan Phillips was to serve as the event emcee for the
10th year.
Naturally, the event was to also feature an “Adoption Arena,” where forever companions from local rescue groups were hoping to find a good human.
“The Walk for the Animals is a feel-good event that brings everyone together to help raise
money to help care for the more than 400 homeless cats and dogs every day at our Soffer
and Fine Adoption Center, Audrey Love Intake and Quarantine Pavilion and in our foster
care program,” said Executive Director Laurie Hoffman of the Humane Society of Greater
Miami. “It is great to see so many different groups of people come out with their pets and
show their support.”
