Gina Griffin, a mother of two young men and widow to US Army veteran, SSG Carroll Eugene Griffin, has been in critical care for the past two weeks. On March 13th, she was admitted to the hospital with abscesses that put her in sepsis. Despite being considered in critical but stable condition, Gina is still battling sepsis in ICU and has also been diagnosed with colon cancer.

Gina and her sons have faced financial struggles since the sudden passing of her husband 10 years ago. With no financial safety net in place, they have had a hard time getting their footing, emotionally and financially. Gina supports herself as an independent contractor, and even with the boys’ help, she has struggled.

To help ensure that Gina and her sons can stay afloat while she fights for her life, her family has reached out to their broadest community asking for support. They are hoping to send some of the energy and love that Gina has shown towards the spouses of those deployed in her husband's unit back her way now.

Since the launch of the fundraising campaign, almost $5,000 has been raised to cover basic living expenses and medical bills. The exact medical costs for the level of care that Gina has received and will still need are unknown but will add up very quickly. In the short term, the family wants to ensure that Gina can cover her rent and bills while she is out of work, so she and her sons can stay in their home and ultimately have a place to care for her.

Jaime, Gina's little sister, said, "Gina is very special to so many of us, and her boys need her to pull through so she can see them become the great men they are destined to be." Jaime is cautiously optimistic that Gina will continue to improve and successfully fight this sepsis. However, Gina will require hospitalization for a while longer and then visiting nurses at home to assist with her recovery. This is all so she can be strong and ready to receive chemotherapy treatments.

The family is rallying support of friends and the military community near and wide to help Gina and her sons during this challenging time. Any amount will help, and all money raised will go directly to basic living expenses and medical bills.
