German Shepard Dies In Miami House Fire

A pet German Shepard died in a Miami house fire on Monday night, according to Miami Fire Rescue.

MIAMI, FL — A pet German Shepard died in a Miami house fire on Monday night, according to Miami Fire Rescue. The fire broke out just after 10 p.m. in the 300 block of NW 62nd Court. No one else was injured.

"Fire crews arrived to find a single family home with heavy flames showing in the rear of the house and an elderly man screaming for someone to come out," said Capt. Ignatius Carroll of Miami Fire Rescue, who said that firefighters did their best to save the animal.

"Firefighters escorted the man safely away and entered the home looking for a possible victim," said Carroll. "While firefighters were putting out the fire, additional information was given that the name he was yelling was his pet German Shepherd."

Carroll said that firefighters were able to quickly get control.

"The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes and no reported damage to neighboring homes," said "Carroll. "Firefighters located the dog, but unfortunately he did not survive."

The victim had been visiting a relative who lives across the street when he noticed the blaze.

"He made an attempt to enter the home to rescue his dog but was forced out by the smoke," Carroll explained. "The fire caused significant damage to the home; Therefore he will be displaced."

The man, who was not identified, declined Red Cross assistance and was planning to stay with family members, according to Carroll.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
