GoFundMe Raises $11K For Teen Killed In New Year's Day Crash

Friends and family of Christopher Jamie​ have started a GoFundMe to help pay the funeral expenses of the 19-year-old.

MIAMI LAKES, FL — Friends and family of Christopher Jamie have started a GoFundMe to help pay the funeral expenses of the 19-year-old who was killed in a New Year's Day crash.

The GoFundMe had already raised more than $11,000 of a $20,000 goal as of Friday afternoon. A 15-year-old girl was listed in critical condition following the incident that left a Dodge Neon submerged in a lake.

"We’re starting a GoFundMe for the tragic passing of our beloved Christopher,"penned friends and family. "Please help his family raise money so we can give him a beautiful funeral and remember him always in our hearts as the amazing and wonderful kid he was."

Two other 18-year-old men escaped the early morning crash without injury in the 7200 block of Jacaranda Lane, according to Miami-Dade police.

Detective Lee Cowart of the Miami-Dade Police Department could not confirm a report that Jamie died trying to save the 15-year-old.

But his friends and family view him as a hero.

"We’re all so devastated that something so horrible happened to such a good person. Long live Christopher," the GoFundMe said.

The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. as the Dodge Neon was traveling south on Jacaranda Lane when it drove into a lake.

Jamie was pronounced dead at Palmetto General Hospital. The 15-year-old was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. She was not identified by police.
