Court documents said Womble allegedly stole the car using a black rifle. The owner and another person were talking near the vehicle when Womble allegedly drove up on a bicycyle with the rifle.

Both Womble and the officer who was involved in the crash were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with minor injuries.

Delva said that Womble was attempting to get away from police when the crash occurred. "Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which point the subject fled," she explained. "Officers followed behind the offending vehicle and ended up in the area of SW 16 Avenue and U.S. 1 where both the officer and driver of the offending vehicle were involved in a head-on collision with one another."

Video shot from a news helicopter showed flames shooting out of the Honda, which was pressed up against the police cruiser.

"Miami Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene to extinguish both the officer’s marked patrol vehicle and the offending vehicle which had been engulfed in flames as a result of the crash," Delva added.

The crash created a headache for motorists as Miami police rerouted traffic around U.S. 1 and SW 17 Avenue.
