Here are the top stories in Miami today:

1. The richest man in Florida, billionaire Ken Griffin, has revealed new details about his aspirations to change Miami into the so-called "Wall Street South." His plans for a Brickell Supertall tower including personally pitching major corporations, including Apple, to relocate to South Florida. 2. City of Miami Beach is opening several parking garages for residents to park their vehicles out of flood-prone areas free of charge. Residents can park their vehicles from now through Thursday at 8 p.m. Proof of residency is required. (WSVN)

3. Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Broward County Public Schools are closed today and Thursday as Hurricane Ian approaches Florida, officials said Tuesday. South Florida is not in the cone for the storm, but steps are being taken "out of an abundance of caution." Miami-Dade County will also close "non-essential" services including libraries and parks. 4. The penalty phase of the trial of Parkland mass shooter Nikolas Cruz continued on Tuesday as prosecutors showed jurors swastikas carved into an AR-15 rifle, an ammunition magazine, and a boot against the objections of the defense team. Cruz is facing the death penalty in the murder of 17 people in 2018. (NBC Miami)

5. Rapper Lil Wayne has put his 10,632-square-foot Miami Beach mansion on the market for nearly $30 million. The new figure represents a 75 percent increase from what the rapper paid 4 years ago for the mansion as real estate values soar in South Florida. (The Real Deal - Miami)

  • City of Miami Beach has proposed a settlement of $119,000 over allegations of excessive force from a July 2021 incident, in which police officers were captured on footage assaulting a South Beach tourist recording them on video. Commissioners will vote today on the proposed settlement amount. Officers are also facing criminal charges in the incident. (Axios, CNN)
  • The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will practice this week in Miami due to the threat of Hurricane Ian, according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. (NFL.com)
