Video from Silva's body camera, which his department released Wednesday, showed him using a metal rod to help pull the dolphin closer to his boat in an effort to free him.

In the video, the dolphin seems frightened and not totally sure of what's going on. As a result, it took Silva several attempts to remove the netting using a small pocketknife.

"Relax, little buddy!" he said. "I got you, buddy."

Silva never gave up. The third attempt was apparently the charm. He managed to cut the dolphin loose, and it quickly swam away.

"Woohoo, yeah!" Silva yelled in excitement after setting the dolphin free.
