MIAMI, FL — Miami's own Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will headline the Super Bowl LIV halftime show when Miami hosts the big game on Feb. 2, 2020, the superstar confirmed Thursday in a tweet.

"This is happening," Lopez tweeted on Thursday afternoon. "Going to set the world on [fire] @shakira #PepsiHalftime #SuperBowlLIV @pepsi."

Appearing on Fox's "Thursday Night Football" featuring the Philadelphia Eagles vs. the Green Bay Packers, Lopez and Shakira said it is noteworthy that two Latina women will be headlining the halftime show in a city with a large Hispanic population on the 100th anniversary of the National Football League. "At the end of the day, it's about making a statement of love and unity and make everybody come together just for a moment, and hopefully that resonates," Lopez said. "We haven't even talked about what exactly we're going to do. That's going to be the fun part now that the announcement is made. We can talk and really get into the creative part of it."

The Magic City unveiled a promotional video hosted by Pitbull, "Mr. 305," earlier this year as well as the official theme for next year's contest: "Live it Miami." It's not clear whether Pitbull will make an appearance at the halftime event.

Both Lopez and Shakira have strong ties to the Miami area. Lopez recently celebrated her 50th birthday at Gloria and Emilio Estefan's Miami Beach mansion while the city proclaimed July 24 to be Jennifer Lopez Day and Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber gave Lopez a key to the city.

Shakira stopped by the Miami Beach police station earlier this year and donned a pair of boxing gloves. She even showed off her right hook as a member of Miami Beach's finest held a punching pad.

Live it Miami is a play on the roman numerals that will be used to denote the NFL's 54th championship game between the American Football Conference and the National Football Conference.

Miami becomes the only city to host the Super Bowl a record 11 times times, but it's been nearly a decade since it last hosted the big game when the New Orleans Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts in 2010 — back when Saints fans still celebrated the Super Bowl.

"If you haven't been to Miami in about 10 years, it's a completely different city," said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez in announcing the Super Bowl earlier this year. "It's one of the most beautiful cities in the nation. It's one of the most unique cities in the nation. We're a truly international city. We speak your language. We have a very unique set of tastes and sounds and culture."

The city's rich culture and diversity is owed to the fact that 60 percent of the people who live in Miami weren't born here.
