Flames Erupt In Little Havana Restaurant

Flames could be seen shooting out of the roof of the Little Havana restaurant early Monday.

NORTH MIAMI, FL — Flames could be seen shooting out of the roof of the Little Havana restaurant early Monday. The Cuban-American eatery was not open at the time and no one was inside. The restaurant is located at 12727 Biscayne Blvd.

Lt. Kirsten Miller of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said the blaze broke out shortly after 1 a.m.

"When units arrived they found fire coming from the roof of the building, and heavy smoke," said Miller.

Jorge Alvarez, who owns the well-known restaurant, told Patch that the fire was caused by an electrical problem on the roof.

"It wasn't that big," he said. "It was a small fire on top of the roof."

Alvarez said that he hopes to reopen the restaurant on Friday.

"The crews worked for over and hour to put the fire out," Miller added. "The cause of the fire is under investigation."
