Miami Beach Cop Suspended Over Alleged Sexual Misconduct
A veteran Miami Beach police officer has been suspended following an allegation of sexual misconduct, according to Chief Daniel J. Oates.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — A veteran Miami Beach police officer has been suspended following an allegation of sexual misconduct, according to Police Chief Daniel J. Oates.
In a statement released late Wednesday night, Oates said he suspended Officer Jorge Ortega with pay earlier in the day as a result of an Internal Affairs investigation involving sexual misconduct while on duty. Ortega joined the force in March of 2016.

"The department became aware of the allegation a little more than a week ago and launched a full investigation," Oates explained. "My action today is a reflection of the seriousness of the matter and the evidence that has been collected thus far."
The chief said that his department's Internal Affairs Unit was working closely with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office in connection with the allegation.

Oates did not disclose the specific allegation against the officer.
Miami Beach police said the case remained under investigation and that there would be no further information released at this time.
