Miami-Dade Cops Come Under Fire In Southwest

MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade police officers assigned to the Homicide Bureau's Street Violence Task Force and the South District Gang Unit came under fire Wednesday night as they conducted an investigation, according to the agency.

"Another close call tonight as members of our Homicide Bureau’s Street Violence Task Force are fired upon while doing their job in South Miami-Dade," Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo "Freddy" Ramirez III said on social media "Thankfully, the officers are OK but we need tips to identify the shooter(s)."

Ramirez tweeted a photo of one of three undercover police vehicles hit by gunfire shortly after 7:30 p.m. at Evergreen Street and Homestead Avenue in southwest Miami-Dade.

Detective Argemis Colome of the Miami-Dade Police Department said none of the officers were injured during the incident.

"A male approached the officers, brandished a firearm, and began shooting at the officers," he said. " An exchange of gunfire ensued, and the subject fled the area on foot."

Colome said police set up a perimeter but were unable to find the shooter. "Investigators are seeking the assistance of the community in identifying and/or locating this individual," he added.
