Miami-Dade Elementary School Placed On Lockdown

MIAMI, FL -- The Charles R. Drew K-8 Center in Miami-Dade County was placed on lockdown for a time Friday afternoon as police searched for a possible student with a gun, school officials told Patch.

Police received a tip that a student was on campus attending a school event with a gun. The school was scheduled to hold an after-school activity, possibly a student dance at the time.

Officers located the student but did not find a gun. The lockdown was lifted around 5:30 p.m. after a search was conducted.

Miami-Dade police and Miami police both responded to the school, which is located at 1775 NW 60 Street.
