Miami-Dade Man Shot Chasing Car Thief
A 44-year-old Miami-Dade man was shot when he and his wife chased a bandit who stole their pick-up truck, according to Miami-Dade police.

HOMESTEAD, FL — A 44-year-old Miami-Dade man was shot Thursday night when he and his wife chased a bandit who stole their 2010 white Dodge Ram pick-up truck, according to Miami-Dade police.
Detective Lee Cowart of the Miami-Dade Police Department said the couple had just returned home from a shopping trip shortly before 7 p.m. when the bandit jumped into their pick-up truck as they were unloading it and took off in the 9800 block of SW 166 Street.

"The husband and wife entered their other vehicle, followed the stolen truck and called police," said Cowart, who said the couple was driving a Honda as they chased the thief.
"As the couple gave chase, they felt as if rocks were striking their Honda," he said. "They eventually lost sight of their pick-up truck and returned home, when they realized that their Honda had several bullet holes and that Mr. Delvys Rodriguez was shot."

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took Rodriguez to Jackson South Hospital in stable condition. His wife was identified as 44-year-old Yoleyvis Lopez.
"A short time after the shooting, detectives recovered the stolen pick-up truck abandoned in the area of Homestead Avenue and SW 173 Street," Cowart added.
