1. U.S. Border Patrol agents detained 17 Cuban migrants who made landfall Saturday morning in the Florida Keys. Officials say the migrants came to South Florida on a makeshift sailboat. They are expected to be sent back to Cuba. (WPLG Local 10)

2. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava has been honored with an "In The Company Of Women" Award. Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department is marking its 33rd year hosting the prestigious award. The award honors "women who have excelled professionally and contributed to the community and to women's progress through their leadership and vision." (CBS Miami, Miami-Dade Government)

3. Miami-born company Carnival Cruises is celebrating 50 years of business. The company was originally founded in 1972 by Ted Arison, an immigrant from Tel Aviv, and now employs over 40,000 people. Carnival has grown from a single vessel to a fleet of 23 ships. (NBC Miami)

4. Voters will decide whether a joint venture between MV Real Estate Holdings and Driftwood Capital can move forward with a Dream Hotel-anchored mixed-use project along the Miami River. Residents will vote on the amendment to the city's charter during an August 23 special election. The amendment would also allow the commission to waive competitive bidding and negotiate a lease extension of 50 years with the developer. (The Real Deal)

5. Hugo Juliao of Miami claimed a $1,000 a Day for Life top prize in the CASH4LIFE® Draw game from the February 21 drawing at the Lottery's Miami District Office, according to the Florida Lottery. He is now $7 million richer. (Miami Patch)

  • A student-led protest against the "Don't Say Gay" bill turned violent Friday at one school in Davie. (WPLG Local 10)
