Miami Mayor Launches Official Twitter Account
His honor's first official tweet said simply, "Now, I'll be even more accessible to #Miami residents."

MIAMI, FL — During his inaugural speech, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez gave out his personal cell number. So it wasn't really that much of a stretch on Wednesday for Suarez to expand his office's social media presence with the launch of a new official Twitter account: @MiamiMayor. His honor's first official tweet said simply, "Now, I’ll be even more accessible to #Miami residents."
Suarez, who is no stranger to social media, also tweets under his personal account: @FrancisSuarez. He plans to keep that account as well.
“In this day and age of smart phones and social media, accessibility shouldn’t be a barrier between elected officials and the residents they serve," Suarez said. “It will allow residents to not just serve as spectators on local issues, but to become an active part of these conversations that directly impact Miami future. This is a great chance to accomplish that in a way that has never been done before in Miami.”

The mayor's office described the official Twitter account as a "new and exciting civic-engagement platform for Miami residents" and hoped that it would lead to greater community engagement.
"It will provide a fresh channel to connect and engage with Mayor Francis Suarez and his staff, allowing residents and visitors to become part of the conversation by asking questions, reporting problems and providing feedback about the issues that matter most to them," officials added.
On Thursday morning the mayor's office tweeted a live video stream of a city commission meeting that drew 1,400 viewers.
