Miami Official Named South Florida Administrator Of Year

MIAMI, FL — When your name ends in "mayor" the universe may be sending you a message about your likely career path. Fernando Casamayor clearly heeded the call and made the right choice. Miami's assistant city manager and chief financial officer was named on Friday as the American Society for Public AdministrationSouth Florida 2018 Public Administrator of the Year.
“I have dedicated my career to public service and I'm honored to be recognized for the work that I have done in my own community,” Casamayor said. “This recognition by ASPA only strengthens my desire to continue serving the residents of city of Miami.”
Casamayor will receive his award on June 21 at the ASPA South Florida Annual Awards Reception. The event is being held at Miami's Jungle Island.

Having joined the city in 2014, Casamayor oversees finance, grants administration, information technology, budget, procurement, risk management and strategic planning.
He is also the city liaison for the Firefighters' and Police Retirement Trust, General Employees' and Sanitation Employees' Retirement Trust and the Liberty City Trust.

"During his tenure, the city of Miami has received multiple bond rating upgrades and has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association for excellence in financial reporting and budgeting," according to Miami officials. "The city has improved transparency and increased community involvement in strategic planning as well as improved the procurement process and implemented a safety and employee wellness program."
ASPA has more than 9,000 members, including more than 200 in South Florida.
Prior to working for the city, Casamayor, spent 26 years working for Miami-Dade County, most notably as tax collector. He also served as an assistant tax collector and special projects administrator with the Tax Collector’s Office as well as a budget analyst with the Office of Strategic Business Management.
He is a graduate of Barry University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Studies.
"I am honored and humbled," Casamayor tweeted on Friday.
