Personal finance website WalletHub ranked the Magic City behind only Newark and Detroit in terms of the worst cities for families.

MIAMI, FL — Miami may have a lot going for it but there are better places to raise a family, according to a new study released Tuesdsay. Personal finance website WalletHub ranked the Magic City behind only Newark and Detroit in terms of the worst cities for families.

"WalletHub compared more than 180 U.S. cities based on 46 key metrics that consider essential family dynamics, such as the cost of housing, the quality of local school and health-care systems, and the opportunities for fun and recreation," the website penned. "While obviously not perfect — given personal preferences and the limitations of publicly available data — our findings will hopefully give movers a sense of the areas that offer the greatest opportunity to achieve wallet fitness and live a long and happy life."

The Magic City ranked 180th for median family salary adjusted for cost of living, 176th for housing affordability, 117th for unemployment, 167th for the percentage of families living in poverty, 170th for the separation and divorce rate, 87th for playgrounds per person and 129th for the rate of violent crime per person.
