Sarasota Motorcycle Wreck; Driver Seriously Injured

SARASOTA, FL —A motorcycle rider suffered life-threatening injuries late Wednesday night when she crashed along North Tamiami Trail.

"A female motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and suffered life-threatening injuries," said Sarasota police.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the 4800 block of North Tamiami Trail.

"Northbound lanes of North Tamiami Trail are expected to be closed several hours from approximately the 4700 block north to Mecca Drive for the investigation," Sarasota police said shortly before midnight. "Please avoid the area."

The road was later reopened, according to Sarasota police.
