2 Shot During Apparent Robbery At South Florida Shopping Mall

Two people were shot at a South Florida shopping mall Friday afternoon during an apparent robbery, according to police.

PEMBROKE PINES, FL — Two people were shot at a South Florida shopping mall Friday afternoon during an apparent robbery attempt, according to police.

"No suspects are believed to be at large," Pembroke Pines police assured on social media during the incident, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m. "Please stay clear of the area as our investigation remains ongoing."

Pembroke Pines police said the shooting occurred at the Elite Fine Jewelry store inside the mall, which is located at 11401 Pines Blvd.

"While inside of the jewelry store, one of the suspects began to smash the glass display cases while the other suspect began to grab the exposed jewelry," Pembroke Pines police said. "A store
employee withdrew his concealed firearm and shot at both suspects."

Police said both men were wounded during the incident. They could be seen by a news helicopter being taken away from the mall to a local hospital by Pembroke Pines Fire Rescue.

"Pembroke Pines officers responded to the scene and began to render immediate medical aid to both suspects," police said.

Witnesses told reporters they heard four shots. Police said no Pembroke Pines police officers were involved in the shooting.

"Everyone was screaming. There was kids not knowing where to go," one woman told WPLG-TV.
