2. Technical issues that led to a nationwide ground stop for Spirit Airlines flights were resolved, officials with the airline said, but not without creating headaches for travelers at South Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Several travelers found themselves stranded during the outage. The IT issues came one week after the low-cost airline announced a merger with Frontier Airlines. (WSVN)
3. In January 2022, as the omicron variant ripped through Miami, the county turned a closed jail into a COVID ward, sending at least 70 people into the facility to try and isolate contagious detainees. The facility was previously shot down for use due to the facility's inability to "meet the minimal constitutional standards for inmate confinement." (CBS Miami)
4. Piyarat Potha Arreeratn, known to most as Chef Bee, is opening an NFT restaurant called Piya. A location for Piya has not been confirmed, but partner Canadian businessman Simon Librati says the restaurant will offer three different concepts in one. (Miami New Times)
5. Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF) is kicking off its 21st year on Thursday, February 24th, 2022. Guests of the four day food and wine event can still expect all of the safety protocols enacted last year, including a contactless ticketing system, temperature checks, COVID-19 sniffing dogs, capacity restrictions, cleaning, sanitization, limiting physical contact, masking requirements, and one-way traffic flow inside the events.
