South Florida Bandit Hits 3 Banks In 1 Day: FBI

HOLLYWOOD, FL — The FBI was searching for a brazen bandit who hit three South Florida banks on Friday, two of them in Hollywood and one in Plantation.

"Investigators believe the robberies were committed by the same suspect," said Special Agent Michael Leverock and spokesman Jim Marshall of the FBI in Miami.

The first robbery took place in a Hollywood Chase bank at 2:36 p.m. The branch is located at 4223 Hollywood Blvd.

The bandit "implied he had a weapon and demanded money from an employee," Leverock and Marshall explained. "There were customers in the bank at the time of the robbery. There were no shots fired or injuries."

At 3:11 p.m., investigators believe the same robber entered a Bank of America branch at 2903 Stirling Rd. in Hollywood and again implied he had a weapon and demanded money from a bank employee.

"There were customers in the bank at the time of the robbery. There were no shots fired or injuries," Leverock and Marshall said.

The third robbery took place around 5:30 p.m. in Plantation at a SunTrust branch located at 8200 W. Broward Blvd.

Leverock and Marshall said the robber again he implied a weapon while customers were in the bank. No one was injured.

"The amount of money taken ... at the banks will not be released at this time," Leverock and Marshall added.
