Suspected Elder Abuse Captured On Video In Miami

Watch: Surveillance video shows the moment a 93-year-old woman is allegedly abused by her Miami caretaker.

MIAMI, FL — A 93-year-old Miami woman was allegedly kicked by her caretaker on surveillance video. The woman suffered a leg injury, according to Miami police.

Officer Kiara Delva of the Miami Police Department said that the caretaker was taken into custody shortly after 1 a.m. Monday. The incident took place at 1200 SW 29th Ave.

"Upon the arrival of responding officers, they made contact with the victim’s daughter who stated that the caregiver kicked and abused her 93 year-old mother," Delva explained.

"As officers’ continued their investigation, they located the elderly female who appeared to suffer from a leg injury," according to Delva.

She said that a surveillance camera inside the woman's bedroom recorded the incident.

"Surveillance footage located inside of the victim’s bedroom depicts when the defendant kicked the elderly female as she sat on the floor helplessly," said Delva.

The caretaker was identified as 64-year-old Martha Diazsanchez, who was charged with one count each of aggravated battery on a person 65 or older and attempted tampering with physical evidence.

"As a result of the victim’s injury, she bled profusely and sustained a large laceration on the right side of her leg," Delva added.
