MIAMI, FL — A Miami high school student will be disciplined and may face criminal charges following a classroom altercation between the student and a substitute teacher that was captured on video as other students looked on.

The incident happened at Miami Central Senior High School Monday and was posted to Instagram. The teacher can be seen placing the female student in a headlock at one point during the video.

“This is a regrettable and isolated incident between a student and a teacher, who otherwise maintained an amicable relationship," Daisy Gonzalez-Diego of Miami-Dade County Public Schools said in a statement.

She said Miami-Dade schools police are conducting an investigation into the incident though it appears the student was the aggressor.

"It is evident the employee used great restraint in her attempts to de-escalate the situation," Gonzalez-Diego said. "As a result of her unacceptable behavior, the student will be disciplined according to the Code of Student conduct and may be facing criminal charges.”
