MIAMI BEACH, FL — A woman was shot and killed in South Beach early Sunday morning and Miami Beach police are asking for the public's help in finding the man who shot her.

"The black female victim was involved in some sort of altercation with the male subject when he fired at least three times towards her," explained Ernesto Rodriguez of the Miami Beach Police Department. "The victim died on the scene."

Rodriguez said the shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at the northwest corner of 10 Street and Collins Avenue.

"The black male subject, in all dark clothing fled northbound through Collins Court where he tossed the firearm just before 11 Street," said Rodriguez. "The firearm has been recovered."

Rodriguez said investigators were using a 3-D forensic imaging system called FARO to map the crime scene.

"Collins Avenue between 9 Street and 11 Street and also 10 Street between Washington Avenue and Ocean Drive remain closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic," Rodriguez said as of early Sunday morning.
