8-Month-Old Baby Dies In Suspected Drunk Driving Crash

Florida state authorities said the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in Pasco County.

PASCO COUNTY, FL — An 8-month-old baby boy died early Saturday morning in a crash involving a suspected drunk driver, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Authorities said a Chevy Silverado driven by a 32-year-old Clearwater man was traveling south on US-19 in Pasco County around 1:35 a.m. when it attempted to overtake an Audi sedan driven by a 27-year-old Gibsonton man, who had his infant son in the car with him.

According to police, while the Audi was stopping for other traffic just north of Flora Avenue, the driver of the Chevy failed to slow down and collided with the rear of the Audi.

The baby suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

Authorities took the driver of the Chevy into custody after they determined his blood alcohol content was 0.089. It's unknown if he will face formal charges.
