• Irene M. Ballou (atholdailynews.com) — Many locals will remember Irene M. Ballou for her active winters in New Port Richey, where she helped lead the Orchid Lake community, ran church kitchen events, and organized a Swedish Embroidery Club. The longtime Massachusetts resident and devoted genealogist, seamstress, and community volunteer died December 16 at age 92; services will be held in Orange, Massachusetts in early January.
   

• Gus Bilirakis Calls for Investing in Military and Veterans (floridianpress.com) — New Port Richey residents may be interested to know that Rep. Gus Bilirakis recently helped secure $4 million in federal funding to open 30 new housing units for low-income veterans in the city. In a broader interview, he also pushed for major upgrades to aging, mold-plagued military housing, citing problems at MacDill Air Force Base and similar efforts in other states.
