Avoid These Contractors, Sheriff's Office Warns Pasco Residents

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office busted 22 contractors for working without a proper license.

PASCO COUNTY, FL — The Pasco County Sheriff's Office Economic Crimes Unit recently conducted an unlicensed contractor operation in which businesses and individuals were found to be conducting contracting work without the proper license.

This crime places residents at potential risk of receiving poor quality work and noncompliance with building codes.

In addition, property owners become liable for any injuries, have limited resources in the event of a broken contract and may become the victim of a scam.

Here are a few tips to help residents avoid becoming a victim of contractor fraud:

  • Ask for licenses and confirm a contractor’s references before agreeing on a project.
  • Don't feel pressured into a contract or work if you're not comfortable.
  • Obtain several written estimates before you start any remodeling.
  • Wait until the job is complete before providing full payment.
