Here's what Jonathan Tietz had to say:
I am absolutely against the county taking over the city's police and fire services. Part of being a municipality is providing quality fire and police services to our residents. I firmly believe we can make our police department far more efficient and effective over the long term as opposed to allowing the Sheriff's department to provide the "quick and cheap" fix that will be less effective over the long term. However, let's look at other areas in which the County, New Port Richey, and Port Richey can work together to share resources, manpower, and information not only in police and fire activities but also in other services like our libraries and parks. Why can't we work together to provide more effective and efficient government services at lower cost to our taxpayers?
